About the Archivist

I'm Khairunissa Hussain, a student historian based in Lahore. My work sits somewhere between family memory, colonial history, and trying to recover the voices of women that most archives left out.

It started with the G.D. Sondhi Archives, a project to collect and catalogue the letters, diaries, and awards of my great great grandfather. I thought of it as a family project at first. But going through his diaries taught me something that has stuck with me since: archives aren't neutral. What gets kept, what gets shown, and what gets quietly left out are all choices, and those choices tell you almost as much as the documents themselves.

That's the question I keep coming back to in everything else I work on. What happens to the histories nobody thought were worth writing down?

This site is where all of that comes together. It's not a finished archive, it's a growing one, built on the idea that silence in history isn't empty. It's evidence, and it's worth taking seriously.
